Chichester, a Roman cathedral city, serves as a gateway to West Sussex and the South Downs National Park and is just a short train ride from London.

The city bears traces of Roman settlement, including Roman baths, a city wall (replaced by a Georgian wall), an amphitheater, now a park, and the old Roman road State Street, which connected Chichester to London.

Chichester boasts a plethora of grade II listed buildings. The Chichester City Cross, located in the centre of North, East, South, and West streets, is a type of butter market built in 1500 by Bishop Edward Storey as a shelter for people who sold their wares on market day.

The gorgeous sandy West Wittering beach is close by, ideal for peaceful walks and a favourite spot for sailors and beachgoers alike. East Head, located just next to West Wittering, is a sand dune spit and a great place to walk dogs.

The charming village of Singleton, located near Chichester, is home to the Weald and Downland Museum and The Partridge. It is also an excellent location for a walk, close to the River Lavant.

The Fox Goes Free pub in the village of Charlton, located nearby, is a popular spot to visit, often combined with a walk up to Goodwood and Trundle Hill, followed by a descent via Knight’s Hill Lane, which is just off the footpath’s intersection at Kennel Hill.

Goodwood, located nearby, needs no introduction to motoring racing fans, as it is home to the world-famous Revival and Festival of Speed.

Bosham, one of the most picturesque seaside villages, is a short drive away. It is home to the Arts and Crafts Centre, which showcases local artists, lovely places to eat, and a picturesque walk around Bosham Quay.
